Alternator regulator repair

Thanks for confirming that about the P1 cars - I know my own battery voltage is pretty low and at 160K miles the alternator is bound to be tired (no other problems showing so far but it's only a matter of time.) Any more details on your specific alternator and the part you used?

Thanks, useful pics there (pretty sure mine is the one on the left though I'll double check.) I'm hoping to have a correct spare part ready to fit - looks like Mobiletron B229 is relatively affordable and claims to fit. I'd prefer a genuine Bosch part but doesn't look like they're available at a sensible price.

I can't believe the price of a replacement alternator for this car, they're completely ridiculous!

The price is ridiculous - for both an alternator and a Bosch VR. I ended up having mine rebuilt by a place that specializes in alternators and starters for commercial/industrial applications. Dropped it off yesterday and it was ready today. New everything. Even looks like new. $120... I'd just see if there's a similar shop in your locale.

S373N -- I will be replacing my VR only this coming weekend. Did you remove the PS pump to gain access or did you find room to work with it still in place. As someone who has replaced a starter motor in a base model V70 without removing the cooling fan, I am familiar with working in tight spaces. I really do not want to remove the alternator and fuss with belts just to replace the VR. Any encouragement you'd like to offer? Thx.
