A cyclist ran into my 850 wagon. Dented hood and winshield. I don't have all glass on the car. How do I find a windshield ? I can't put major cash into this car. Brooklyn ny.

Not funny speedypete. Joking abut backing up and killing a bicyclist is very much not funny. I put my life at risk every day riding on the roads with morons (that's not a comment about the OP by the way). I've been hit by aggressive drivers four times - once it was hit and run.

If you don't want to buy a new windshield you can purchased used glass at a salvage yard. It can be lots of work to cut it out of the old car using a wire to cut the windshield urethane adhesive but If you have another car to use maybe you can get your practice on the broken windshield. Most body shop supply places would sell you the high-tensile steel wire used for this. Depending on the yard they may cut out the used windshield you are buying for you. Not too hard to install, but you probably want a friend with you when you do it, and to read up on glass installation prior to starting.

I take it your insurance won't cover it? Unfortunately used windshields aren't a great option (in my opinion) as they tend to break as they are being removed from the donor car. There are lot's of bodega shops around Brooklyn and Queens if I remember correctly. Try them. Otherwise there are various grades and prices of replacement glass. Just call around. The people who come to you and replace glass are not that expensive and they usually do a good job.

Being an avid cyclist, I am ALWAYS on the watch for riders. That evening, pouring rain...this guy comes barreling down the road...wham, right into the front of my car, over the hood and into the windshield. No helmet, dark clothes, no light, riding the wrong way on the road in the dark / rain. Broken leg. Police were not called, ambulance came and took the chap away. #'s taken to file a report today. Yech.

That was stupid of him Try to get him to pay. All four of my hits were in Manhattan but I never rode like that.

I've been trying to hunt down a windshield for a 1990 760 turbo sedan. found one at a pick and pull but don't want to pull the trigger until I secure a gasket. I'm hoping the answer is universal weatherstrip installed by a glass company like Safelite. I'm looking at the parts book and all it lists is spacers, tape and adhesive kit. what gives?

Later cars are bonded in windshields, not seals. Now a 760 is out of my wheel house in terms of how it is fitted. Looking at a 760 Turbo parts listing:

Item # 2 spacer is normally used to center the windshield in the aperture. Item #3 and 4 Are bonding tape and adhesive. This may be an earlier version of the mastic type bead of glue used on newer cars. Best people to ask is a windshield supplier as they probably have info on installation even if they can't supply the actual glass. Have you checked with an aftermarket windshield supplier if they can supply a windshield even if not an OE Volvo one? Some of the bigger chains like Safelite? in the US may have a warehouse somewhere with one in it. Other places to try are older businesses that may have NOS parts that are slow moving. Up here we have companies that used to supply PPG branded glass (Canada and especially western areas like Calgary) we go through a lot of windshields. We can't get PPG any more it is all Chinese stuff. However, I found a smaller outlet and they had 4 PPG tinted top PPG windshields in stock, but they were charging about $150 CDN more for them for a S/V70 P80.
