1997 850AWD Am I Retarded?

Post by Fogducker »

Am I missing something here? Trying to adjust my parking brake at the drums and there doesn't appear to be an access hole to adjust the star wheel for the parking brake pads???

At first I thought that a previous owner installed front rotors on the rear but the drum area of the rotor is there which is not on the front? How the hell do I adjust the parking brake??? Thanks for any insight.

You have to do it through one of the lug bolt holes. Shine a light in there and you'll see the star wheel.

The parking brake on the AWD is different from the FWD versions. Take a look at the parts diagrams for more guidance. I have not had the rears off of my AWD yet so I can't give you any more guidance based on experience.

I have the Haynes book for it and have looked at manuals online, they show an "access hole" to adjust the star wheel for the parking brake pads on the face of the rotor above one of the lug bolt holes........ The manual says it covers, I believe, 1993-2000 ALL MODELS of 850's,,, I call BS.

I have had a second and third look at this and for the life of me can not figure out how to get to the adjustment. What I plan on doing is removing the calipers and rotors and see what is behind there.

Look carefully at about the 1130 position for the star wheel, looking "up" a bit through the lug bolt hole

Thanks guys, I will have another careful look through the lug bolt hole, wonder why there is not just a plan access hole like most other vehicles and it appears, according to shop manuals, some Volvos....?
