1998 s70 Car ramps

Post by JRev »

I know any suggestions will be us/canada based but if anyone uses ramps for oil changes can you post a link to the ones you use? just so I can see which ones would be suitable for these cars as I'm looking for some good quality rubber ramps and the best ones seem to be caravan levelling ramps due to the weight they can take.

The steel ones available over here get varying reviews due to them bending, which doesn't give confidence.

I'd suggest a good quality floor jack
with a set of dependable jack stands.

I take it you aren't a fan of using ramps or are axle stands your preference?

Steel ramps should not bend or buckle if they are 'properly weight rated' to suit the vehicle supported and built to reputable required standards.
True that Volvo's are built a bit more solidly and weigh a little more generally.

You can do a LOT more with a floor jack and stands.
A jack and stands offer a great deal more versatility.
Try to check your front motor mount with a ramp...
And you'll have a lot more room to work - Case in point:

Your quite right but here (NZ) we get earthquakes reasonably regularly and the pic of the vehicle on just the 4 stands doesn't inspire a lot of confidence to be stuck underneath in a good shake.

I use plastic ramps (ABS) for all my oil changes. I haven't used my metals ones in ages. I use them even on the EV which weighs a lot more the either Volvo. They probably have some service life after which you sell them to a kid with a bike...

Nice! Wasn't doubting floorjack/axle stands offer more possibilities, just simply considering ramps as an alternative method solely for oil changes.

These are the ones I nearly ordered (with extensions) as draper are a good brand but read the reviews and done some research on google and not that confident they would be suitable!

Steel ramps are a pain to use.

Wood ramps are way better, info below...
