Is there a date code on volvo timing belts

Post by fairmont50 »

I have purchased a replacement engine for my v70r and need to know if there is a date code on the belt that would determine if the timing belt has been replaced? The timing belt has a volvo part number but no obvious date code.

Thanks

Chirs

Look all around the engine compartment for a sticker. How many miles are on it? If the engine isn't in yet it is a cinch to replace with it out.

When in doubt, replace the TB, tensioner and idler pulleys. The TB kit is $120 from Volvo online (not from local Nebraska dealer, who set its own price!).

Unfortunately, I only have the engine, not the car (there was no timing belt sticker on the timing cover). I was hoping to avoid the $200 cost of a timing kit is it has already been done. At 150000, the engine is overdue for a belt if it has not been done yet.

If you are replacing the engine and plan to keep the car, why risk the belt, water pump, etc. It's to easy to replace out of the car. A belt is about $30. If your stuff was good, you can use it for another 50,000 miles.

If there is no date code on the belt (and it appears that there is not), I will replace the belt, pulleys, tensioner and water pump. I was just hoping to avoid that if possible.
