S90 Outside Temp -188F

Post by cyberwolf »

I recently picked up a '98 S90 and noticed that the outside temperature display is not working correctly. It displays -188 F all the time. I wasn't planning to bother with it, but I have read some things about other Volvo models reading the outside temp as part of the air conditioning circuit. The A/C is not working in this car and I'm about ready to start troubleshooting that.

Does anyone know if a low reading on the outside temp sensor will disable the A/C on the S90? Apparently will on some other models, but I haven't been able to determine exactly which ones.

Does your vehicle have this system: ECC climate control temp sensor measurements made easier?

If so, consider downloading this file.

Thanks for the info. I just ran the test and got the same 161 (solar sensor) code as the guy on the video. I'll have to take a look at the outside sensor when I have some daylight.

I'm into redblocks, not this newer equipment. I assume your setup is same/similar as in that cited literature. That PDF file has lots of information...

Here's two more PDF information

Brief History

This file below might have more details on getting trouble codes...but maybe not...it appears Volvo ECC changed with time, with more codes...
