1997 Volvo 855: Incredibly crumbled orginal Camshaft Position Sensor wiring

Just wanted to share a picture of how bad the original connector was on the camshaft position sensor on my '97 855 GLT at ~184k miles. The date code in the CPS was "94" so I'm pretty sure it's the original. It was working OK but I replaced it today to help avoid future problems.

I ran into this same issue on my '96--engine heat, plus aging plastic.

Agreed. I was surprised how brown the plastic was on the outside -- just like toast or a roasted marshmallow. When new, the connector is bright white. I think if I had waited too much longer the connector would have fallen out of the female socket.

Mine was the same way. Had to pick pieces out of the female end before I could connect the new one.

This went out on me today - after sitting over night - would not start. Code 0340. My plug looks almost the same - fried -on a 98 V70, 165K. Should have been easy to fix but it is about 20 degrees out and all the vacuum hoses are hard as rocks so made it difficult to get to the sensor bolts. New sensor $130.

Good you got it fixed! I replaced the sensor a while back as preventive maintenace, and surprisingly the connectors were okay on both my 94 and 96
