Man this is pretty crazy. Even in '99 there are fuel pressure regulators for a v70XC here is the page with a pic from EEuroparts.com http://eeuroparts.com/productdetail.asp ... &code=7879

SOunds like the internal check valve has failed.
You can buy an aftermarket external check valve.
It still is a 4-5 hour job as the pump has to be removed from the tank but you save yourself the price of a new pump.
(I did this on my 2000 R and the car now starts flawlessly and saved 6-$700 on a new pump)

Man are you funny polygaryd, Im talking about a new hose and clamp on my fuel pressure regulator that connects to the fuel rail because there was a leak there not my fuel pressure tester in the picture.polygaryd wrote:i thought after 95 they stopped using fuel pressure also i am using a different fuel pressure gauge and it doesnt leak so no need of a clamp. ?
Cheers

I would check for leaking fuel injetors. If they are leaking ,then you would lose pressure when the car is off and this could cause flooding in the cylinder causing hard starting.Your Oxygen sensor would be giving these mixed readings to the engine computer ,causing kaos. Did you pull any engine codes
i looked even on fcpgroton and they only list one for 98 models and it doesnt even look like a pressure regulator. i only stated that there wasnt on on 95 and up because i read that info on a forum just like this one.. but still i dont see any for 2000 i will check out your link and see what else they have.. also your pressure regulator has the vaccum line and the 98 model shown on fcpgroton doesnt so they are very different devices. how this 1998 model regulates pressure is beyond me without having some sort of vaccum line to it to pull the pressure down at idle..
also no codes on the car.. it runs mint after it starts too.. no drivability issues what so ever. stomp on the gas and it goes no hesitation or anything. no black smoke when it starts either like it is running to rich from a flooding cylinder
also i knew what you meant about the clamp on your fuel pressure regulator not your pressure tester sorry i gave you that impression i must have got something messed up when i typed in my response lol .. and yes apparently what i read on other forums about these cars was wrong.. totally my fault but still i havent found a regulator for a 2000!!! only up to 98 so far. thanx for all the ideas so far.. i am liking the external check valve idea to save money on a pump i was thinking that was what it was all along.. i will check for leaky injectors but i doubt there is any since the car doesnt display what normally would go along with leaky injectors.. thanx for all the help guys i will check out some more stuff and like the injectors anyway and get back to you. also i would love to know what the part number, for the external check valve and where to get one from so i can get one if that is what i need.
actually i went to this site and they say it does have one for 98-00 v70 turbo models so i guess that is what i probably need only thing is i cant find this anywhere on the car.. not on the rail either.. so i will take some pics and post them up of what my fuel rail looks like and see if you see what i do... thanx for the link though this could prove to be very usefullMadeInAmerica wrote:Man this is pretty crazy. Gentlemen
Very interesting topic, I recently had my fuel filter changed and spark plugs replaced on my 2000 S70 and now the car starts hard after sitting for say half an hour. If you start the car right back up after shutting down the car starts fine and always runs fine. I must have a fuel leak?

I dont know if this will help you Polygary but a friend of mine has a camry and the fuel pressure regulator is in the assembly in the fuel tank. Since I see the fuel pump assembly has a hefty price for your car maybe its there.
Anyway if there is a Haynes manual or Chiltons for your car I would check that out because Im sure they would tell you about it in there
