1999 V70 Purchase CEL Codes P1053 ECM 91F0

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 1999 V70 NA with many small minor issues that I knew I could tackle myself. Now that the majority of the things are fixed on the car, I have some codes stored in the vehicle. The first code I have in my vehicle is P1053, and I could not find much information about this code online. I did find a few people saying that it's the ETM? I believe that my ETM was previously replaced, and I don't have an ETS light nor any issues with my throttle which makes me believe its not an ETM issue. The other code that my vehicle has is P0455, and I have purchased a purge valve and will install it and go from there. My main concern is finding an answer to the P1053 code. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Clear the code and drive it for a few days to see what comes back. The ETS light off is good. I doubt you have ETM problems.

Can you get a pic of your ETM label or see if it white ( original) or yellow( replaced)?

What was asked and you won't know as a new owner, is there are paper labels somewhere on the ETM/throttle body. The ones with the white label are ones that were fitted to the cars when new. Volvos from 1999-2002 had many problems with these ETMs failing and the replacements came with a yellow paper label to identify they had been replaced. The fact yours appears to be functioning fine makes this a moot point, but the label sometimes gives a manufacture date so you will know how old it is.

As suggested, if you can have the codes re-set, then wait and see if it returns. Repair shops sometimes forget to do this after repair, or don't have the correct equipment to do so.

Here is a picture of the label. I'm assuming it's original, and I'm suprised it's still working after 207,000 miles and it being a white label plagued with issues...

Manufactured Year 99 week 02. At 207k miles, that might be the record holder!

That P1053 corresponds to Volvo ECM 91F0 which is....

Oh. My cruise control doesn't work, but it doesn't really bother be. Is a new ETM the only way to get rid of this code? I'd rather just leave it alone if possible as I paid very little for the car. My only concern now is passing inspection, due to the fact that this code doesn't go away. In my state, emissions is only tested by the inspection station checking the OBD for readiness. Would this code affect my passing inspection due to the fact that it's in the system but it's not emmisions related and it doesn't make the check engine light go off?

You have to check your state regs. In NY CEL on is instant failure

By " check engine light go off" do you mean turn it on?
