I know that this is an old thread but I'm reviving it because my son's new '07 S60 (2.5T) is having the same problem. When we bought the car, the guy also had an S80 which had also had the same issue and he had them taken off and reupholstered at an upholstery shop. I was thinking of doing the same thing because buying new Volvo ones would eventually incur the same demise. From' 01-04 here in the US they were plastic. The V70, XC70 and S80's suffer the same problem. There is a pull-a-part here in town with 2 S60's from 2004 on their lot- tempted in going out and seeing if I can grab a couple of them. Anyway, the last poster asked about part numbers. Yes, there are part numbers for these and they come in different colors (different part #'s) so, if you want to go that route, you'll probably find them cheaper here http://www.tascaparts.com/auto-parts/20 ... llars-scat They come in beige, grey or oak and on this site they are called the windshield pillar trim.
Good luck and if anyone tackles this job, take pictures and post them. I'll try to do the same!

The cloth ones are cheap
The vinyl ones cost 3 times as much
Most have separated by now (we all know about Volvo and their bad glue by now)

Hey Jim,
I didn't know there was a difference cloth vs vinyl... when you say vinyl do you mean the hard plastic ones that were on the earlier models?
If I go to the pull-a-part, that's what I'm hoping to find. My wife's '04 V70 has the plastic A-pillar trim pieces and not the recent un-gluing mess...

The color matches perfectly so if you can find them, yes pull them
We call them vinyl covered, but yes they're the same as you call hard plastic.

I went to the Pull-A-Part and hit the mother load!
I got 2 sets (driver's and passanger side) of these in the vinyl...they are beige in color, both sets.
I'm keeping the better one with the clear plastic tab for your ticket, etc that snaps up against the windshield in front of the driver. One set had that plastic piece broken off. If you're careful, you could transfer the one from your cloth covered trim piece. All tabs are retained including the strap that turns 180 to turn loose from the car so there should be no issue transering these to the s60. Btw, they will fit V70's and XC70's that have cloth covered pillars too. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM or post here before they go up on eBay or somewhere. They were cheap- not trying to make much money on them unless they go to eBay, then yeah- I'd like to get my time and gas money back at least!

I have the same issue with the hot summer here. Fixing the cloth is easy. The real problem is the proper mounting of the pillar. The previous owner may have reversed the upper metal thingamabob that wraps around a black plastic post which also holds the flimsy plastic retaining clip. Does anyone have a picture or know how on correct orientation of this part? The pillar will not sit flush on either side of the interior. Very ragged looking. Ugghh. So much over engineering.

I'm not completely sure if you are talking about this black clip
It's pain to properly attach it to the pillar. You have to twist it by 90°, push it in the pillar and twist it back again so that the black plastic stripes are not crossed.
Let me know if you need more pictures, I'm trying to glue the cloth on my pillars.
