Hello folks: The water pump bearing seized in my 1998 S70 causing the timing belt to jump off the cam sprockets. This occurred while I was driving around 40mph. I replaced the water pump, set the cam and crank timing marks per spec and installed a new timing belt. All buttoned up now, but it will not start. Not a single pop from any cylinder. Also, when I crank the engine, the starter sounds different, like it's trying to overcome more resistance. Any thoughts on what to check are greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
ssalak

There's no nice way to put this, but you are aware that these motors are interference motors, right?
After installing the belt but before starting the engine its a good idea to spin the crank by hand to make sure everything turns like its supposed to. What happened when you did that?

Sounds like you have some bent valves.
These engines are interference engines and timing belt failure and "jumping" for more than two teeth is game over.

The Volvo 5 cylinder is an interference engine which means if the timing belt jump/breaks, the valves are bent. Either put in a new engine or take the head off and fix it.
