12V Battery for a 2002

Post by raybythelake »

I just bought a nice 2002 S40 with only 55K miles. Battery needs to be replaced. I have a good battery from another car that has 350CCA rating. Stock battery has 600CCA.

Other than the obvious risk incurred of difficulty starting in subzero temps with the 350CCA battery vs. a 600CCA battery, Can this lower rated battery be used in this car without creating some other electrical-related issue?

Thanks in advance for any insight or advice.

Ray

I don't think there will be any issues.
Try it. What do you have to lose?

My default mode is "jump right in and do it", but I was trying to use the collective noggin before pulling the trigger. LOL. I'll probably just do it unless I get a sudden onslaught of "you'll fry your ECU" posts.

Tell us what you find out...I'm thinking that even in the summer, that's not going to be enough cranking power. I'd just run jumper cables to your own cables to begin with instead of lifting out and in your car to see if it works. Is the size relatively similar?

Yes, fairly close. I'll keep you posted on results.
