My 98 XC was left with the key turned to "on" and the seat heaters on. The battery drained. When I charged the battery and tried to start it again, it would not fire. When I checked for spark (with a fully recharged battery), there was none...
Could I have "cooked" my coil or something else by leaving the key in the on position until the battery died?

Possible but I doubt it, pull the coil wire from the distributor and clip it to a position near the engine block and see if you are getting spark when you crank.

If your battery was under load long enough, it may have sulphated. If it is, it may seem to hold a surface charge, but the plates have been covered and allow only a small discharge, so the amperage and voltage won't be enough to start the car.
Try a new battery. You also may be able to jump start, but if the old battery is sulphated, you'll need to replace it.

On a '98, there's only a starter cut.
And lights would be flashing and the
little horn would be trying to beep.
I'm thinking that if there's enough juice to spin the starter,
there should be enough to light up the plugs. Got a meter?
Time to start walking through the basics...
