parking brake cable - 2004 v70 - parts 9191484

I am looking at overhauling the parking brake on a 2004 v70 including new e-brake shoes and the cables to the rear brakes. I was wondering if anyone has used ATE cables as opposed to volvo oem. Feedback appreciated!

Oem are discontinued by Volvo .
Try IPD.

FCP shows that part indefinitely back ordered

It also shows compatibility with P2 V70s but only 2003-4 XC70 s ?

One of the mvs sponsors sells the cables. Eeuroparts, link is at the top of the page.
I got all 3 cables.
Ebrake still sucks.
I ordered the threaded barrel adjusters for the shoes. Waiting to install.
Supposedly the adjusters make all the difference.

Where did you order the adjusters from? I was just going to order the cable to the left and right rear brake (2 identical cables). My goal is to pass Mass state inspection. Never use the e-brake!

Yeh, I went thru that in MA last yr, so i moved to Maine, that'll teach em.!

Adjusters come as a complete kit with all the brake springs etc , IPD , I think it was $26 for both wheels plus $10 mail.
Mine is a 2004 v70.

From the invoice,

The adjusters help eliminate that 'delay' before the handbrake engages (the car still moves a few inches before the shoes can grab) when adjusted correctly through one of the rear drum holes. It also helps increase a little bit the 'bite' but nothing dramatic. What actually helps, is installing new cables.

But I found out that this doesn't last and it needs readjusted perhaps ever 6mths. It may also wear the shoes faster than without, because it basically keeps the shoes in a slight contact with the drum.

Btw grab the adjusters for free from the junk yard, every pre-2000 Volvo had them, such as S70, V70

Came across this video. He had to shorten the adjuster by cutting the end off.
Although IPD says it fits.
I'll take a look at mine later.
i never use my ebrake.

No need to cut the adjuster, fully retracted its the same as the solid bar spreader.
Within a whisker anyway. Measured.
