Hello,
I just bought a 09 Xc90 3.2 r design with 95,000 on it. Should I change the spark plugs and ignition coils? I’m not sure what else is involved in a tune up on these? Thank you

The spark plugs are cheap enough but the ignition coils a little bit more money but I'd say yes if the ignition coils were never changed at 95k. O2 sensors would the next item you might want to look at if there still original. Your atf, a angle gear oil, differential fluids are actually more important as far as I'm concerned though. I say that because if she's running good with no misses then you probably don't need the ignition stuff but yes change them. Air filter/cabin filterchefmarkt69 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 9:28 pm Hello,

If you do not have service and maintenance record, then CPO checklist is your steps to a full ownership. I find it extremely useful ...

The thing with the ignition coils is that they may well last another 50K miles... Much better to keep a spare one in the trunk and replace it right away if it starts misfiring - have some tools to remove it from there. You may have one fail at 130K miles, and another one at 150K miles. Use only Bosch genuine on this part - see online on Fcp or Ipd sites
For the spark plug agree to replace them, again use genuine - important.
Your 3.2 has a tricky thermostat with plastic parts that was problematic after about 8 years and may cause engine overheating. I'd replace it at this point.
Not sure about the O2 sensor, as long as the gas mileage is fine, they could go for 200K miles.

With the spark plugs should I use the NGK laser iridium ones? or the Volvo ones? The only coils I saw were on eeuro and they have the oem ones but they are not made by bosch. Should I still look for the Bosch ones or use the oem Volvo ones?

3.2 and V8 use mostly Denso branded parts, no Bosch coil packs for these variants as least as far as I can find and it appears that Denso does not offer these as aftermarket products.
For plugs, Denso site notes this-
VOLVO XC90 3.2
ENGINE DESIGNATION B6324S
IRIDIUM POWER PLUG NO IKH20
IRIDIUM LONG-LIFE PLUG NO SK20HR11
PLATINUM TT PLUG NO PKH20TT
STANDARD PLUG NO K20HR-U11
GAP- 0.044
Edit 092818- fix formatting of parts list

For spark plugs I've bought Volvo brand for almost same price as the original equipment manufacturer. FCPEURO.COM.. But I've been accused of being very picky with my Volvo's. Look on the coil packs/ignition coils that your XC90 R has in the car now and they to find the brand name written on the actual coil. You can buy them in the blue box but I'd think those would be a bit more. On my wife's 2004 XC70 I purchased "Bosch" coil packs but that was the original equipment manufacturer for that model. If Denso makes yours then your best bet is to buy Denso.

You can never be to picky, I have owned nothing but Saab’s before this suv. I am very picky and just want to make sure I put the best correct part in the car! Thank you
