Proper way to adjust star nut for parking brake?

On my one side the star nut for the parking brake is on top, and on the other side it sits opposite, star is on the bottom half.

What is the right way to turn to tighten and loosen? Is it righty tighty, left loosey like most other things?

Prying up through the hole tightens it, prying down through the hole loosens it.

After you first tighten them up give the drum several spins and then do it again. It takes more than you think to get the shoes centered inside of the drum.

I took mine to the point where they where just loose enough to still turn the rotor/drum by hand and, after spinning them, it took a couple of more revolutions on the adjuster to actually center and seat the assembly. The final adjustment is for the shoes to be "just touching".

VADIS instructions are not clear about this....all they say is to turn the star wheel UP until the brake shoes are snug to the point that the wheel won't turn and then back the other way 4 or 5 notches. Then you'll need to adjust it at the lever inside the car. I'm surprised that one is turned downward. I wonder if this is by design or by someone installing it backwards (easier to get to from under the car?) Not sure if this helped.

On my car, 98 V70XC, the star adjuster is on the sides, not on the top or bottom like the 850's. Mine sit vertically/perpendicular to the car, not parallel with.

I would need to pry it towards the front of the car or towards the rear of the car. From that, what way would be tightening, loosening.

Also, V70's do not have a separate hole for adjusting them within the rotor, you have to completely remove the rotor to gain access to the adjusting star.

I guess you're just going to have to try it either way until you feel it tightening.
