'99 V70 Auto Base FWD No Start Topic is solved

Running issue with the '99 wagon. Cold weather no start. I have gotten an immobilizer code on it before, but I think Steve said at one point it was likely a "ghost" code. It did start with a jump a while back. I think I also swapped in a used immobilizer antenna ring just to take that off the table.

The no start is confined to cold weather. When warm it will start right up. This makes me think it is not an immobilizer issue.

The no start symptoms is, however, suspiciously similar to bad immobilizer -- starts, sputters, then dies pretty much immediately and won't restart.

When it was running earlier this week, I took it to Advance Auto Parts for a battery and starting system check. Report was good. Battery state of charge was low, but battery, alternator and starter all tested good. I then put c. 100 highway miles on it to charge up the battery and had no issues. Next attempted cold start it was a no go. Has Xemodex rebuilt throttle body and beefed up battery cables.

Battery is Walmart, but extra capacity due to larger-than-standard size, less than two years old. Could this simply be a bad cell in the battery? Wouldn't that show up in a battery test as something more than low state of charge? Battery was also load tested with cabin blower on full, high beams, etc. Came back OK. This one's a puzzler.

I'm tempted to just go get a new battery since I'll probably get some pro rated credit.

Have you tried jumpering the fuel pump relay?

Nope. Pretty much identical to '98.

Pretty classic fuel pump relay mode if failure. Try a jump on the next no start

I'm going to dig around in my spares and see if I have a junkyard scavenged unit. I'll report back on result (of course JY unit isn't known to be good. . . .)
