Is there a light in the ashtray?

I can't remember....Is there a small light that comes the lights are turned on located in the ashtray? I seem to think there was a light greenish glow at some point during the night.

I have a 850GLT

There is a green light that lights up in a ring around the cigarette lighter.

Front or rear? They both have one. The one in the rear is shared with the light inside the center console box. Dealer charges $6 for that stupid bulb.

Darn, and I thought I had just finished replacing all of my stupid interior bulbs. ALL of mine were burnt out.

If it's the wedge type of bulb, I believe Sylvania makes a replacement that you can get at an autoparts store. The part number is 2721.

Oh, and if you want to replace all the super tiny bulbs in the switches (headlight switch, fog light switch, etc.), look for a 3mm LED w/ about a 20 mA draw. You can also get a 2 pack of light bulbs from radio shack for $1.49 (part # 272-1092). Either way, you'll need to solder them in, which is very easy to do. Well worth the money saved.

There's definitely a light above the front ashtray of our 2000 volvo v70 xc. But I'll be darned if I can figure out how to remove the old bulb. Any advice?

No soldering at all on the switch bulbs, just pop them in and wrap the wire contacts. Part numbers including for radio bulbs, links and an example of how to replace the switch bulbs: viewtopic.php?t=67244

Mouser (see above) is a better source for incandescent switch bulbs.

You can use the switch bulbs for the ashtray and shifter etc as well, no need to shell out $6 for a little light. So buy a few extras and be set for years.

20mA could be pretty dim. I measured original bulbs and they are about 80mA. It's really hard to find so powerful bulbs but 60mA are available widely.

If you're changing to LEDs, you should definitely not look for something in the same range as the originals. White850Turbo is right - I changed my switch bulbs to those LEDs, and that's about the same amount of light as the old ones put out. A little "clearer" even, I'd say.

No...it's separate light with it's own socket.
@ Viper69...you need to remove front ashtray mechanism in order to replace the bulb.
It's held with 2 torx bolts on each side visible when you open the ashtray.
