Windshield Washer check valve repair

Post by jreed »

This is a small thing because you can buy a new check valve for the windshield washer for about $2 or $3, but you might not have to. My check valve was allowing fluid to shoot out of the top of the valve. I removed the valve, pried off the red lid, and found a deteriorated rubber gasket inside. I used a piece of a new rubber glove as a replacement. You just clip the new glove in with the red lid, and then trim the excess rubber around. I reinstalled it and it has been working fine so far.

What a great repair! You aren't taking into account making a special trip out to buy a valve which is surely worth some amount of money in personal time.

I bypassed the check valve a while back after having broken it during diagnosis. Now that I'm replacing my pump and have a new check valve, it's been so long that I have forgotten which port the "in" hose goes to. Can you remind me?

The in hose is connected to the L shaped fitting that goes into the bottom of the check valve. This is the end opposite the red plastic cap that you pry off to replace the diaphragm.
