So I assume the thing is beat and will order another one today. They are easy enough to replace. Does the cam error cause the lean running error or do I have yet another thing to track down?

cam solenoid and P0171 Bank 1 Lean
My car has been getting Cam Solenoid errors since I got it and also gets P0171. I took the solenoid off and cleaned it with Seafoam and an air gun with no changes

Most likely you have another problem to track down.
P0171 = ECM-250A Long-term fuel trim.
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-250A
Condition
The engine control module (ECM) receives information from the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) about the fuel/air mixture at different loads. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers that the fuel/air mixture deviates too much from target lambda value, leaving the long-term trim in one of its limit positions.
Substitute value
None.
Possible source
Upper limit:

High fuel pressure
Leaking injectors
Leaking evaporative emission system (EVAP)
Contaminated engine oil
Oil level too high.
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
Poor performance
May result in high fuel consumption.

Might as well. The MAF should be cleaned periodicity and it does not take much time.

You night just have to dig in and clean the throttle body as well; as it gives off the lean fuel trim codes too.

Security Torx Bits.
A lot A lot of times you can turn the Security Torx bolt with the right sized flat-head screwdriver. You wedge the flat-head screwdriver along the post and the ends of the blade into two of the points of the star then twist.

Or grip the edge of the screw with a pair of pliers and twist! I used this myself.
