Hi I have a 1998 c70. When I bought it a few years ago it had been lowered and it was too low so I had a mechabic change the suspension from an s70 to it. I have the s70 because it went through a flood and was completely covered with muddy water. The c70 now drives smoothly and it steers perfectly, but the tyres rub against the inner guard and the cross member is on a slope. Does any kind soul know if the suspension is the same ot have I made a mistake doing what I di? Thank you for any advice.

C70s usually have 4 bolt control arms. You can't have swapped the ENTIRE suspension from an S70 to the C70.
The front struts are the same and so are the tie rods and shocks if both were the same thread type. Was an alignment done to provide correct toe-in to manufacturer's specs?
Did the springs get swapped over from the C70? If not the ride height will be incorrect. Tyres rubbing could be worn or broken steering stops which are on each side of the front of the control arms. They are usually riveted on and could have come adrift causing the rubbing.

I would venture to guess you have the Canisto rims from the C70 on your vehicle with P225/45R17. If so, they will be too wide. I put a set on my 98 S70 T5 and both front and back rubbed. The original tires on the S70 were P205/50R16 and then Volvo transitioned to a P205/55R16. I would recommend a P215/50R17. I haven't had the cash to put new tires on the Canisto rims, so please do research before dropping $450 on a set of tires. If the tires are in good shape, spacers could be an option. I know IPD sells them Good luck.

C70 cloth top cars have a spacer where the spindle bolts up to the suspension arm. The track width is wider in rear as a result. If you dismantle the c70 rear and move the longer spindle bolts and spacers over to the s70 pieces it should push the wheels out and fix it.
I have a total Newbe question and I appologize if this is the wrong thread for this. I recently picked up 2004 C70 Convertible "on the cheap". I noticed the top of the strut mount in the engine compartment has a gap between the top rubber and the mount. I can clearly see almost a half inch of the shaft. Could the pervious fool of an owner have overtightened the retaining nut (Cross Nut) to lower the front suspension?

The strut mounts are worn out.
Take it to a mechanic and have him change out the strut mounts. I don't advise DIY strut mount replacement to anybody that does not know what they are doing. People have been killed when they lost control of the spring on the strut. A flying spring has the energy of a Cannon Ball. If it hits you, it can kill you.

Go to Autozone and rent this bad boy. No chance of any springs jumping away and it is so fast and easy. Had a pair of those spring compressors from HF, they just turn into spaghetti noodles when you start tightening them.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑29 Apr 2019, 11:17The strut mounts are worn out.
