What is this hole for? - '98 C70 T5

Post by mashinalens »

Hello All,

Recently I bought C70 T5 1998 (320k km) and went to a mechanic to change the fluids and the spark plugs. When he removed the engine cover I saw the hole which was sealed with some black material (a little bit soft when engine is hot). As I saw on photos of other T5 engines this hole should be free. Does anyone know what this closed hole can cause and why someone did this?

By the way, PCV system is clogged here (glove test was failed) and I plan to change it. I want to know, do I need to remove upper half of cylinder head to clean this black staff?

Optional location for a PCV breather hose. Like the optional location for the oil filler.
If it is not leaking leave it alone. If you want it to look better cut it off flat.

As for why somebody would do that. We have seen this one time before and nobody has a clue.

 funny
But this black thing is making me crazy. I think previous owner thought that oil was dripping from it and seal it.
