If you had the plugs out when you tried to turn the engine, you are likely correct.

Still, it should move, even with the plugs in. It'll just be more difficult. (Unless it *is* seized)

OP do you know if your car has VVIS? Also I'm assuming this is a non-turbo car but didn't see that in the post?

Most (all?) 94 850s are plagued with VVIS intake which means the manifold ports are a different shape and won't match the ports on an RN head. So if you want an RN engine you can't keep the existing intake manifold which means you can't keep VVIS or for that matter the EGR (I think all 94s also have EGR), all of which would make the ECU unhappy.

So using an RN engine gets tricky here, seems you would also need the right intake manifold? Or perhaps a head swap but that is beyond practical. There are 95 850 intake manifolds with EGR but all VVIS manifolds have the square ports. Maybe you can adjust something to just run without the VVIS, there are some good posts about VVIS in the archives here if someone wants to search and read :). Then you only have EGR to deal with.

Searched the OP posting. He has a 1994 Volvo 850 wagon non-turbo wagon.
That would be one of these:
1. B5252FS ( 10 valve ) with Siemens Fenix 5.2 no V-VIS
2. B5254FS ( 20 valve ) with Bosch LH-3.2/EZ-129K and V-VIS.

If he just wants to fix it and cannot find a N engine. NA RN lower end with the N Head ?

Yeah as I mentioned, could swap the head too but that's getting overly complicated IMO.
