A 15/16" works as well (almost same size as 24mm). I also used a socket and short extension, which is nice because you can use a 6 point socket with less chance for rounding out the large bolt.

Home Depot has it. I forget the size. I have 2 sizes, one for the 850 and one for the S80T6. Just pull the top hose and measure the diameter of the inlet or outlet. Mine fits a little tight which is good. Only leaks a few drops when I pull it off.

I do mine every 25,000 miles. The drain and fill x3 every 50 - 100 miles.

Once a year no more than two depending on color or slight change in driveabily. On my other cars drain and fill if lazy or else flush especially on the Volvo.

I have a 850 Turbo, I wanted to have a drain and fill done on it by a shop and not mess with it.
They told me that they will not do one on a car with more than 100k, well, I am well past that at 201K.
So should I do the partial drain and fill slowly myself?

I did the drain and fill 4 times over a period of about 2~3000 miles. Now I drain and fill once every other oil change, about 10K miles. Shifts fine and still looks pretty clean. Brad850, do the drain and fill yourself, about 3.5 qts per drain. Do one, drive for a couple/few 100 miles, do another two/three more times and you're golden. Don't try to do say 2 or 3 drains back-to-back, don't shock your tranny. Use off the shelf DEXIII fluid, nothing special, I used PEAK ATF DEXIII and it works fine.

1/2" id. It comes in thick and thin wall at the hardware store. Get the thin because it's easier to squish on and still grips tight. About $3 for 5' length which is just right, and at that price it is easier to toss it than clean it up. If you think about it, probably no worse for the environment. I flush every 30k or 2yrs so it's not a big deal--cost or otherwise.

8 year update on this thread.

I’m now running three slush boxes, all on Valvoline maxlife synthetic ATF

All cars got three drain and fills over a month when they joined the fleet, then get the 3-4 liter “ update” each summer in the nice weather during the nice weather
