Re: Oil capacity of rebuilt engine
^ So then maybe just about 7 qts if it's a turbo with a dry engine, lines, turbo etc.

Don’t sweat it too much Sveedy. Turbos have the piston oilers so as long as the oil pump is making pressure everything is getting lubed well from 4 liters of oil on up

First oil change today. Drained, replaced filter, added 6 qts. Shows full on the stick !
So since I was only showing 1/2 way on it with 6.5 qts after rebuild, it seems that a dry engine will actually need a full quart more ( 7 ) than normal oil change.

Yes. Normal operating temp in both cases.
7 makes sense if you consider that we typically add 6 for a change w/ filter, and manual calls for another 1 for dry turbo lines.

Incidentally my dealer puts 7.5 quarts in my 04 2.9L T6 during a routine oil and filter change. The oil level is always perfectly on the full line. I have carried umpteen boxes of Redline oil to them to get 4.5 quarts back. Sometimes 8 quarts to find one bottle half full wrapped in plastic left. I once asked why the extra .25 quart since the manual calls for 7.25 quarts used to perfectly fill to full. The explanation was Volvo at some point revised the fill recommendation to 7.5 quarts for my engine and provided a updated dip stick to reflect full with the extra oil. I vaguely recall the dip stick being different years ago after a service. I wander if the 5 cylinder had a increase as well? June

There was a dipstick change on the P80 , and replacement dipsticks read slightly different than originals. I think there is also a tube change, it’s been discussed here of course.
The oil level just isn’t that critical in these cars. Being on the bottom of the hash marks isn’t “ worse “ than being at the top. As long as the oil pump has full suction, the oil pressure throughout the engine is the same. This probably occurs down the 2 liter level, not an experiment I’m interested in running.
If you are 2 liters low, your life will be shortened by rough;y 2/6 , but again if you are using synthetic with 5000-7500 intervals, you wouldn’t notice it
