Need new brakes on 2000 s70

Post by Joshuaevers12 »

So I need new brakes on my 2000 s70 GLT SE. I just bought it and I’m still getting into the whole Volvo scene and I’ve heard I should only buy OEM parts. Would it be bad if I got aftermarket brakes even with good reviews? Also are there any good sites to shop for s70 parts/mods?

You can go with aftermarket brands for brakes.

-Ate(oem)
-Ferodo
-Jurid
-Febi
-Trw
-Delphi(it should be Ac Delco in U.S)
-Bosch
-Textar
-Mintex
-Valeo
...etc...for both...brakes and pads.

Basically with all good known aftermarket brands.
Do not use ones like proparts sweden, scantech and similiar...since they will squeal like you are stopping a train.

I've had the same set of Zimmermann rotors and Akebono pads on my 850 since 2012, and they're doing a pretty good impression of being indestructible. I took the liberty of finding the ones for your car.

FCPEuro and IPD USA are good places to buy from, and they both have YouTube channels full of how-to vids.

Take a look at the brake hoses; old age is harder on them than miles.
Meyle , ATE, Febi all have good reputations. Rotors are more prone to heat and mileage related issues; if they look good - no big grooves or cracks, etc., and if you're not headed for the track - it would be less expensive to do pads and hoses, and if the parking brake seems wonky, at least buy the spring and clip kit, and have the rear rotors off for a good hard look.

Buy brake parts from FCP. That way, they're warrantied for life when they wear our or fail (due to calipers seizing). Before installing rotors, check the hub face for runout and check the new rotors on a lathe for runout. After installing, check for runout on the rotor. I've had new rear rotors with a runout of 14/1000" in the rear which I could feel.

Stay away “ over-hyped” racing pads. Race cars heat their brakes up before they get effective, which we don’t do during normal driving. Choose them for stopping power , not brake dust issues. You won’t care what your wheel dirt level is when that Nissan Rogue comes over the lane barrier
