What was the verdict on the ps rack, Firefox? Was it a line ( cheap fix) or are the rack seals gone?

Thanks for continuing to pull parts. How many short head lug bolts do you have? I'll be stopping by a specialty Volvo shop tomorrow to buy any that you don't have.

Thanks for the O2 sensors. How can I tell which is front and rear, and confirm that they work before installing?

I'll have the owner buy Geronimo a nice new coolant bottle as a lower priority. The coolant light is permanently lit on the dash, so I assume it needs a coolant level sensor.

The power steering rack leak must have been from a hard line and gotten patched by the mechanic who did the inspection. The fluid level doesn't seem to be dropping. That's a huge relief and I can check/improve that repair much later.

My car needs the ECC HVAC damper motor for the floor vents. It may be part 9142629 on the left side of the center console, immediately below the left temp motor. Is that same part used for multiple dampers? VIDA gives me code CCM-322 "Air distribution damper motor Active too long" but doesn't tell me the part number.

Your 2000 uses the later air distribution motor which is a single motor driving both sides. There is a chassis break in 1999 for this; I think this is in the bastards thread

Climate control changes

In late 1998 the damper and temp control modules were replaced by a single motor (9134729)doing both functions on the driver side. This was used 1999-2000 then replaced on P2

Geronimo got new spark plugs today. It had been running rough with pending cylinder 4 misfire codes. The old plugs had some deposits and cylinder 2-3 threads were oil stained from the leaking fill cap gasket.

Cylinder 4 electrode was slick black though its threads were dry. Why might that have happened? How can I prevent it from happening again?

I've attached a picture of the old plugs. I'm interested to know if you see anything which indicates issues I could address. Thanks.

Possible issues are a leaking injector so getting too much fuel or poor ignition so bad/worn plug or cracked/weak coil.

Are these 3-point style plugs what the factory installed? When I pulled mine, I was surprised as I had never seen plugs like this. I was assuming I'd find some standard looking Bosch plug.

There's a chance it's a valve stem seal issue, but I'm with Dr. Abscate on this, drive the fresh plugs long enough to see if it cures the stumble; if so/then go on.

Thanks for the input. The cylinder 4 plug fouling coincides with compression test low pressure readings during the first two cranks on that cylinder. I tested the compression 9/2021 before doing any work, with a failed ETM, after the car had sat for 6 months. The pressure readings for each cylinder (rows) for each crank (columns) were:

Here's the video of the cylinder 4 compression test. That first crank sounds so much weaker than every other cylinder's first crank.

Does this low crank and fouled plug suggest any problem with cylinder 4?
