Center console bulb for 12V sockets, AT shift console [ Sylvania 2721]

I am trying to identify the bulb for the center console 12V outlet illumination. That is the 'cigarette' lighter to the left of the shifter and the one in the rear section of the console by the ash tray for rear passengers. They are the ones that give a faint green glow. The bulbs are clear but the green surround gives the green illumination.

Anyone know how to open these easily to remove the bulb without destroying the holder?

I think the bulb is part # 989800 and it is a small wedge bulb but there is no description on wattage and I am assuming 12V.

I need to replace the ludicrously expensive shifter illumination bulb # 30710781 (around $13 CDN)

Finally there is the bulb for the front ashtray. How do you access this and what bulb is it? I think it is the really stupidly expensive bulb # 3545170 (around $30 CDN)!!

I will take a run to our local Canadian Tire who carries these and check them out. I see on Ebay there are plenty of Chinese companies selling what looks like an equivalent LED bulb. Can these be used?

I think mine suddenly started working a few days ago. I was driving home from work, and all of a sudden it was on....either that or I've never noticed the green ring before. I wonder how long it will stay on. The clock/temp LCD backlight was only on for a few days before it went dark again.

On cars that may have not been used for a while it could be oxidation on the contacts that may be causing the electrical challenges. Short of removing the cluster there is no way to easily access that bulb so clean/replace.

Rick was bang on the money. 2721 looks identical and looking on Vida parts list, it is a 1.2W bulb. I have test fitted 2 bulbs in a spare console harness and they both work now with new bulbs. Both were blown.

I use the same bulb as all the dash switches, the little 7219 ones. Inexpensive (less than $1), works great and I try to always keep a handful around.

The gear shift position lamp/bulb that abscate lists is a silly price from a regular dealer. Around $20 CDN. On-line dealers are cheaper but have a minimum amount for free shipping. So unless there is something else I need it is a case of having to pay the local dealer for the part.

Like I said, the 'other' even more pricey bulb is the one under the dash that illuminates the front ashtray. Again from on-line dealers $30!! Found a place in England on Ebay that claims to sell for 6.50 pounds + shipping. By the time you pay all that is works out more expensive.

Maybe the ashtray bulb stays out!

The small LED type bulbs that are used in the majority of the switches are cheap if you buy them from someone like Mouser. I used to buy maybe 50 at a time and remove the old and replaced new bulbs onto the holders. So I have a bunch of those when needed.
