98 V70 exterior handle locks and unlocks but won't open door

So I definitely screwed something up when replacing my door handle. I got the peg to go in the slot, so the lock cylinder works. But when I pull in the handle it sounds like it scraping past whatever lever it's supposed to catch to open the door. How am I supposed to put this thing back together?

It could be the lever that has the round end on it got bent or has not fully engaged in the slot it has to get into. I have been there and it seems it either goes really easy or will fight you all the way. If the arm gets bent it can rub against the rear window guide.
