Re: Axle is stuck:(
It's wrong by any seal I've ever changed. Spring loaded rubber goes to the inside.

When I took out the old seal, the spring came off even before the seal budged from its location.

Then again it may have popped out as I was trying to get the seal out.

Ok, so if the seal was put wrong, how do I extract the axle?

Cold chisel between the trans case and the axle flange. As it is not fully home then you may have to fit a piece of wood on the trans side and then use the chisel as a wedge to try to force it out. Careful not to damage the seal recess.
From what I can see your seal is fitted correctly. Flat face outward? Not sure what the other guys are seeing that I am missing. Oops retract that, I now see the little piece of spring wire. The seal is as per the picture below. The metal face of the seal should be out.
Neil.

I changed this seal about six years ago, still dry. The circlip may damage the seal on the way out. Good luck. You probably will have to remove the axle again. I wouldn't beat on the carrier bearing
any way.

The carrier bearing bolts are removed, right Kally? Two 12mm hex head m8 bolts and then pop off the semicircle metal part. Then snap the axle out of the other half and give it a good tug

Seal looks backwards to me too.
But even if backwards should not prevent the shaft from coming out.

Thanks for all your replies and help!
I did remove the bolts on the carrier bearing and used a piece of wood to tap gently against the metal part of the bearing. The axle eventually came out. I released the boot clamps and moved the boot off the outer part of the axle and it fell off! The cir-clip was not fully engaged! Am working now on getting the boot back on.
