High beams not working.

Post by 02V70 »

Now with daylight savings, I am driving my 2002 v70xc in the dark more often. When I turn on the high beams, the indication light comes on, I hear a relay click, but the high beam lights do not come on. This has happened before, but intermittently. If I turned the high beams on and off a bunch of times, they would turn on properly. However, now they do not come on at all. What could be the problem? Is the relay bad?

Tried it with that switch in every position. High beams wouldn’t even flash.

Check wiring and connectors to the high beam bulbs. Check with voltmeter to see that power is getting to the bulbs. Check resistance across bulb for burnout of bulbs.
Both bulbs may have failed or wiring problem.

Likely the high beam relay located on the CEM. You can swap it around with another relay to confirm. Since you can hear the relay click it's probably bad contacts within the relay.

Location of high beam relay (2/63).

The relay looked like this. I swapped it with the one for the fog lights, and now the high beams work!
