850 1995 pcv system without hose to the head from the oil trap

About the little cut hose, it does not have anything to do with the breather box. Someone has accidentally dropped it between the intake manifold and the engine.

I always find these changes baffling as to why Volvo made so many variations. I learn something new every day reading inputs to MVS. Thanks for taking the time to share your findings.

So...it seems that there are 3 versions of PCV breather box.
2 versions,one smaller and one bigger with standard 2 ports on top and this unicorn with a single port on top.
Untill this case showed up,i always thought that there are 2 versions...smaller one for early cars and bigger one for later cars.

Yes, it seems that 850s have these variations.

Finally, I replaced the breather system. The first time I have ever done it. It was a learning process for sure. I had already ordered the pcv kit before I started the job. The breather box of this new kit had the two ports on top of it, so I blogged the outer port –– the port which would go to the valve cover. I checked what is inside of the old box, so that I can make sure that the new box is similar. Indeed, as far as I am concerned, the only difference is the port for the valve cover. Thus, I believe this new box will work just fine. The old box had some (or pretty much) gunk in it. The ports of the engine block did not have any gunk, nor did I notice or I do not remember any gunk in the hoses. Yet, I am glad that I did the job. Now my Volvo can breath more easily
