Just replace the hose first. It’s the fatter one that runs to the intake manifold that pulls the turbo off, not the thin one going to the turbo control valve.

I replaced the snorkel and hoses today. Smoke seems to be coming from the base of the wastegate actuator.
Seem like you can get a new wastegate actuator for about $100. Remove heat shields, remove pin and disconnect actuator arm, remove two bolts holding the actuator onto the turbo unit, and pull off the little rubber hose. Sound about right?

Ordered a new wastegate actuator from turbochargerpros for about $50. I'm pretty sure I've been running with minimal (if any) turbo boost for a while now. Hoping this failed diaphragm fix will restore turbo function. I don't have a good setup for resetting the wastegate preload. Was actually going to get a cheap sphygmomanometer with bulb (similar to a blood pressure cuff) but it only reads up to 6 psi (300 mm/Hg shown below). Maybe that is good enough, as I've heard factory value is 4.5-6 psi. Other pressure gages run up to several hundred psi and there's no way to be able to dial it in to low ranges effectively.

its very simple, actuator rod has a threaded clevis that fits over the wastegate pin, you adjust it so it holds the gate closed with engine off, just slight tension to prevent the gate from rattling around.
The spring in the actuator diaphram is what holds the wastegate closed, you have to pull the actuator rod out slightly to put it under slight tension and pop it over the pin, then make sure its snug, doesn't rattle, if good... insert the hairclip to retain the clevis on the pin.
lots of youtube videos for this.

Make the wastegate clevis 1/8 inch short of reaching the gate actuator pin..., pull the actuator rod out and slip it on, done.
The slight tension holds it closed as it builds boost, until the ECM tells it to blow off excess pressure.
