No....it goes to the upper half of air filter housing...there are two nipples for vacuum lines.

It's for vacuum operated flap for cold/hot air intake.

Hopefully, the MAF fixes the problem. It does sound like a problem with one of the sensors: stalling the engine once it goes into closed loop.
If the MAF is the problem, shouldn't unplugging the MAF solve the problem? At least on Motronic 4.3 or 4.4 p80s this works because the computer uses default settings over what is actually measured by the MAF. If your V70 is ME7, it might not work that way.

Also, have you tried replacing the fuel filter?

I could also imagine there being a bad connection. I have a 80ies Opel with a rare Bosch LE-Jetronic injection. For years the car ran fine after startup, but bogged really hard when warm. After years of not wantong to drive it for the bogging my kids fiddled with the connectors with the car running and turns out the MAF Sensors connection was just slightly corroded.
As soon as the car had warmed up, the computer was looking for actual data from the MAF and got erratic readings.

One more thing: Try replacing the coolant temperature sensor with a known good one. They can cause weird symptoms too

Been running fine ever since.

Ordered a bunch of stuff but this may be simpler than I expect. My distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs only have 10K on them but they are, I think, 5 years old. It certainly won't hurt to put some new ones in so they are ordered.

Still waiting on MAF and ignition coil. (they were out of Bosch coil so I ordered the MSD... somewhat leery here.)

Again, thank for everyone's tolerance as I stumble through this.

Pretty sure I lost the cam. The attached picture shows the distributor cap with shavings taken out of the terminals. I want to say "Oh maybe this or that" but I'm pretty sure the cam has to be moving to take out pieces like that. Someone please tell me I'm wrong. ...Dale

Maybe just a poorly built aftermarket cap and/or rotor? Or somehow got installed wrong. Are you sure the metal mount underneath the rotor is in the proper orientation, on the end of the cam?

The rule on P80 cap and rotor is Bosch only and Bosch only.

Those look like standard high mileage ignition wear marks to me. Scrape them off with a sharp, stiff blade …a Boy Scout knife …isn’t life grand ? Girls are scouts now, and direction finding has been changed forever.
