94 850T getting tired

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

94 850T getting tired

Post by Stevieb »

I was looking at potential, relatively cheap upgrades for my 1994 850 Turbo. The car has around 200k and has lost much of it's pep. Mainly looking to bring some life back into it, I've looked at both Air intakes (http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-850/Perform ... -143-3546/), or (Perhaps a remedy to my low boost pressure [gauge, though moving, never makes it into white zone]) http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-850/Engine/ ... -168-2155/. Any suggestions as to the most beneficial upgrades/changes to bring some of it's power back would be great, thoughts?

A chip is a good way to go fast for lots of money, while a manual boost controller (more MBC) is a less reliable way to go fast for little money, but whatever you do make sure your Volvo is up to Stage 0 first.

You might want to upgrade your Compressor Bypass Valve: http://www.quickbrickmotorsports.com/pr ... grade.html

Hmm, never even heard of that! It seems to be the alternative to the familiar blow-off valve. I was poking my head around today but I can't seem to locate it looking into the engine bay, and have had no luck searching for volvo specific images. Based on the info in the link it would seem a car with as many miles as mine would very likely benefit from a new diaphragm. The MCB also seems promising; a performance chip is a bit too expensive. If I were to replace the air filter with the short ram should I expect any performance increase?

It's on the turbocharger compressor section.

Thanks for the diagram, I see it now. Seems to be in there pretty snug though.

The fresh aftermarket coil I got from IPD made a huge difference for not much money. If you still have the OEM coil, ya gotta do this.
