Just bought a case of Amsoil. It is now J3309 rated and is synthetic. None of the other J3309 fluids are synthetic, even the $80.00 a gallon Volvo fluid is dino based. Amsoil is virtually the same price as the Toyota T4 fluid.

In South Africa neither Amsoil nor Mobil 3309 ATF is available, so my choice was Volvo OEM or Toyota T-IV ... it was a no brainer which I chose! You guys Stateside are spoilt for choice and prices are generally way better too!

Piling onto old news, but in Seattle, Mobil 3309 can be had by the case at Snider Petroleum, on Pier 91 by the Magnolia Bridge. Very funky industrial area, it's worth it just to see the contrast between them and a Volvo dealership. Price per quart is a little under the area prevailing price for Toyota T-IV. I paid under $72/case of 12 including tax, and Toyota wants $6.22/quart before tax.

I would say so!

Anyhow, I will recant my original statement from 2006
Valvoline Maxlife is now approved by Volvo.
Many dealers have switched (including mine) and all they have now is Valvoline in bulk.
They're using it on all the trannies, 5 speeds and 4 speeds.
(Now if you want a drain and fill only, better bring your own fluid!)

I don't know if the formula is any different now over 2006, so I would read the bottle but apparently, it seems to be OKO to use this on a full flush

88 Camry wagon with around 225K in 2004. Transmission had a little slippage between gears. On sale so tried it and it worked great for a bit after flush but did not last. Swepco'd and was fine.
