2001 V70 Xc Car locks itself. Wiring or Module? Topic is solved

I think you should back up a little. Remove one at a time each splice and take a look at the connection. Nothing too hard at all. Solder if you feel the wires are not bound together well.

Re-read my previous post, Mo (Aug 5, 12:57am). "I removed them, and the two wires attached to the door lock wires mentioned previously"
I'm not a fan of solder in places that see a lot of movement (maybe because I stink at soldering), so I used a crimping connector with a heat shrinking cover for water resistance.

Hoping that eliminates the phantom locking. Thanks for your concern and input.

Once again, we have a winner! There is, indeed, a rod going from the lock mechanism up to the lock cylinder. Here's a view of the (disconnected) end of it, through one of the access holes in the door:

Here's a view from below-
Note the hole in the bracket circled in yellow.. Looks like the end of the rod (circled in red) should go in that hole. I'm able to do that, but it quickly falls out, as the hole is pretty large. Wondering if there should be a rubber grommet in there, or I saw mentioned in another thread something about a plastic clip that holds it in place. Can anyone confirm, or offer an alternate explanation of how to fasten the rod in place?

If your old DDM has a little white sticker with two or three numbers on it then you want to match those numbers to the sticker on the replacement DDM. I replaced mine a couple years ago with a junkyard part and as I recall I was able to match two of the three numbers. I also made sure the replacement came from the same year car. End result - it worked.

There should be a grommet in that hole in the arm attached to the key lock!

I think Al should get all the Gory for interconnecting us. By the way, I used one of the grommets in this kit and it worked for my 03 S80 T6.

That part is really cheap as someone in the forum recently had the same issue and picked up the part from Volvo. Suppose to be under $2.00.

I can't tell you how many times, and for how long, I've stared at that diagram, Mo. And every time, it looks to me like that grommet (or bushing, as it's called in the diagram) is associated only with the door handle link, not the lock cylinder link. It took seeing the actual mechanism, properly assembled, to fully understand.

It's a moniker inspired by fear, frustration, and awe.

• Fear, because it has stranded my daughter numerous times since she got it. "Open the driver's door, Beast." "I'm sorry, but I can't do that."

• Frustration, because there are so many things that need fixing that I made a list (and I hate lists). Though, when I last cleared codes, only three popped up on the restart (down from 11)

• Awe, because it's still running, even though she does less than the minimum to maintain it. Most egregious case in point: when I replaced the starter three weeks ago, good dad that I am, I thought I'd just check the oil and top it off if needed. Pulled out the dipstick; no oil visible. Took four quarts to get between the min/max marks.

The good news is that the grommet/bushing for the door lock arrived today. Wish me luck getting the door handle out, and putting the door back together tonight.

And, I guess I'm showing how obtuse I can be. I acknowledged your reference under the "Fear" bullet point (can you name the actor who played Dave?). But, then I got literal and tried to justify the nickname. We're too smart(-ass?) for our own good!
