I've gotten more used to the cold this season... my inner Jersey is coming back! I just want the sun... it's been nothing but clouds this winter. The cold wet weather makes it hard to work on cars, but some of us try to get through!

Meanwhile, it was 70 degrees Wednesday, we had a tornado that ended 1/2 a mile up the street from me (literally the next street over in my neighborhood) on Thursday, and now today it's supposed to snow this afternoon. 4 seasons in just a few days... welcome to NC!

I'm a spoiled whimp in comparison and really don't care about the weather. Decide which car I want to work on and move it in the garage Friday evening. Then turn the heat on before breakfast Saturday morning. It's toasty by the time I turned the laptop on to play some of my favorite music while I wrench :D

My crew comes next Monday, my 7th anniversary on MVS, to unload the 1998 parts car and open up my garage for the rest of this job.

Cold, wet, snotty ice rain today - lousy outside wrenching weather. I can do cold, but not cold and wet.

Warmer today, probably 63 right now and cloudy... awaiting MORE rain later tonight into tomorrow and Wednesday. We got one sunny day yesterday, at least.
Now I need to load up the heavy Volvo and recycle some old oil and coolant and return a battery core to the junkyard. At least I got the wheels swapped on the 940s today, the '93 is ready to go for the most part.

You should change this thread to the MVS wrenching weather thread!

I was hoping for a wam week in FEB to get Marks Silver Bullet back on the road, but so far, the weather has not been kind.

Well, four hours in and I just got to cam cover removal. I got badly jammed on the two intake manifold 12 mm bolts underneath - both were stripped heads, so I ended up removing at the block bracket. Also stripped, but Managed to work it out with better access than the top two.
So cam cover removal next - whats the favorite poison for that?

Cam cover pliers??
Jam a chisel into the groove and air hammer away??

Steve is off to the races with the Orange idea, as Syracuse was indeed the intended destination when trouble ensued. Car IS registered in the Green Mountain State. I can see the White Mountains of New Hampshire from my house. So you all are iin good shape on the Color Wheel code names.

Daughter Dearest actually attends SUNY ESF in Syracuse.According to their published ESF Branding and Style Guide, "Primary colors are the green, white, yellow, brown and black in our logo."

So I have to wonder about Orange Mountain, although there is little doubt about Steve waging an uphill battle. Cold, wet and alone.

Hoping someone will save me having to buy the $100 cam cover pliers - but there is always the MVS tool program, worst case.

It's been a while (thankfully) since I've had to do this, but here's what I remember:

If the cam cover is the same as on the 850's, I've used a 3/8" or 1/2" square drive to pop the seal.

On the 850 if the crank timing mark is zeroed, #5 valves (I think on the intake side) will be loaded open under the cam cover.

To ensure a level lift of the cover to avoid damaging the seal wells, I leave a couple of bolts at #5 in but loosened maybe an eighth to a quarter inch, both intake and exhaust side. Then with all the other cover bolts removed use the square drive of your ratchet under the edge of the cover to pop it. There will be no lifting force from open valves under the #'s 1-4, only under #5.

Then working back and forth across the I&E's at #5 end, remove those bolts and keeping it level until the ends are clear, lift it off.
