For the turbo? I ran the B5234T without a turbo heatshield for 8 years. It worked fine.

The heat shield is to help keep ambient under-hood temps down, and deflect a little away from the firewall. The turbo won't care one way or the other, but if you have one in decent shape, it can't hurt.

I'm having a big day. I checked eBay, and it said that my bracket had been delivered. So I went out to the mailbox and there it was.
And now it's on the engine.
This is for an 01-04 nonturbo V70, at least according to the eBay listing. Whatever, all the holes seem to be where they should be. Or close enough. If it works, great. If not, I'll try another one.

Speaking of firewalls, I'm trying to find the little plastic clips that hold the heat shield to the firewall. No luck so far.

Chopped the downpipe off the exhaust.
And now I have a question: Is this bracket necessary?
It goes between the subframe and the steering rack. I was digging through my parts pile when I found it and realized I'd forgotten about it. However, I've noticed that a lot of guys do steering rack or sway bar work on their cars and don't even have the bracket at all, so does it even need to go back in?

I hadn't had this bracket installed on my car for a while. It wasn't until I noticed it was there on my parts car that I reinstalled the bracket. Only reason I did was because I replaced the rack, I probably wouldn't pull it apart otherwise.
I don't think it's too necessary.

I thought it over and reinstalled it, as it was there in the car before I took everything apart. However, while it looks like a support for the steering rack (which, brilliantly, supports the back of the engine. Nice job there, Volvo.) it doesn't seem to actually TOUCH the rack.
Oh well. It won't hurt anything to be there.

Better to have it in place! My OCD requires me to have everything where it belongs, so I always feel better knowing that everything is installed properly.
