Re: Chemical burning smell
popping noise, on the 3 point turn, check for grease on the steering syops, probably dry add grease should cure the popping on a tight turn.

Expedited shipping costs are so high I checked with my local dealer for the first time ever. They can have it overnighted for 10$ which is way better than I can do. Downside is they're like the exact opposite of every parts guy Ive ever met. Instead of being grumpy and rude with a lot of vehicle knowledge theyre really friendly and kinda iffy on the competence side of things.
I think its probably run as a Volvo/Kia parts department and you can tell. Theyre calling Volvo to verify the part number, its definitely the right part number.

So long story short Volvo doesnt make the R caliper anymore and Im gonna replace both rear with regular 99 AWD rear calipers and Ill do rear brakes while Im in there. Im not going to return the cores if they are original, maybe find a place to restore them one day when Ive got another daily driver and the R goes into resto mode.

Check out Neil (scot850) thread on refurbishing a 'bastard R' - you might run into more NLA parts. Do the emergency brake parts port over on the caliper change??

I dont know, this is becoming a serious headache though. So for rear calipers its the non-R AWD that places stock and not for the R, for the brackets on the caliper noone has the non-R AWD brackets but they have the R. I get its an older car but this is crazy.

99 and 2000 'R' have different calipers. I believe the 99 has a solid rotor and the 00 has vented which was a 1 year option. That
When I was looking for calipers, I found only 2, one for each side as rebuilt units. Trying to recall the brand name. I think it was something like NuGeon. But it is worth checking with the usual suspects like Napa and Cardone. I even tried to get a re-build kit from ATE but they no longer made them.
For the 2000 year, Volvo had an option to replace the rear brakes with parts form a P2. I will try to find the thread with the info on it and add a link.

2nd page has the part numbers, but you may need to check with the dealer. If you have difficulties with them, let me know and I will see if I can get help from my local dealer where I worked for a short time and the parts guys are good.
Neil.

Thanks Neil!
So the only way I could get a bracket that I was able to figure out on such short notice was by getting a Wearever reman caliper that comes with the bracket via Advanced.
Had to cancel my order with Tasca for the OE non-R calipers as I just could not source a bracket. They were super helpful today and I definitely owe them my next parts order.
I only ordered one as I’m not super confident in the quality, so I’m hoping this can at least get me to summer and I’ll try to get OE parts back there, even if they aren’t R parts.
Wow. This has been a pain in the rear today

Thanks loosenut! I may take you up on that sometimes. Im not going to turn a core in for the caliper. Id rather eat the core charge and have an apparently rare R caliper in my arsenal of future projects.
