Happy to report everything is back together as it should be. The car performed well on a longish test drive, but I have yet to attempt drawing a vacuum and recharging the a/c system. The priority was making the car drivable which it is.

Ok, so just when I thought I was in the home stretch, my 6 gal. pancake compressor broke before I could get the system vacuumed and recharged. Here's the thing, though. My Harbor Freioght vacuum pump mentioned 4.3 CFM rate @ 90 PSI. My compressor will go up to 150 PSI, but says it's spec. is 2.7 CFM @ 90 PSI and 3.4 CFM @ 40 PSI (it was purchased to operate a brad nailer). Does that mean my compressor lacks the necessary suds to power the Harbor Freight vacuum pump?

Is your vacuum pump powered by compressed air? Mine is electric.

Yep. But I went out and got. HF vacuum pump and was able to draw vacuum for 10 min heldc. 29 in hg. Left pump connected for another 10 k n. W/ power off and vacuum held. Trying to recharge w/ cans of Arctic Freeze and am having no luck whatsoever. Thoughts?

Do you have all the right valves open?

The needle on the cap of the can has to be screwed in to puncture the can lid, then back out to open the can to the manifold.

The needle valves on the middle port and the low pressure (blue) port need to be open counter clockwise to add Freon

Once you have it right, with Freon on one side and vacuum on the other, Ms Entropy will take over.

Long and the short of it was climate control fuse was shot so the compressor would not run. Fuse replaced and I'll try to do the freon charge this morning, but it is going to be straight from the cans given what I've posted below.

Do all of you guys with the Harbor Freight manifold gauge set recharge from 30 lb. tanks of r134a? The charge hose for that gauge set has a female end and none of the can hoses will fit it, plus I haven't been able to find any kind of adapter. The charge hose appears to be designed to be used with a 30 lb. tank. Did all you guys spring for the 30 pounder? That's a lifetime supply of freon for me.
