No heater core mist. No wet floor near the driver gas pedal. And no misting or moisture on the inside windshield.

I will take a look at the heater core, and see if it looks aged. I hear that it's a pretty easy switch to put a new one in, but if it breaks it can overheat the motor pretty quick. Correct?

And this is kinda like part of the stage zero for the P80s

erikv11 wrote: 04 Oct 2020, 13:27 Oh and a very common place for these to leak exhaust is the joints for the cat, either the front or back joint. I think I have repaired all of mine now, Well, had them repaired - muffler shop.
Ok, well I'm gonna order some gaskets for these joints... and then take them apart and replace. At least it won't be bad as the manifold to the cyl head.

And is this where the down pipe is? Such as, increase this part to 3inch and get a little better breathing exhaust? And what about the "flex pipe" there, do those fail?

I guess my question is, what parts here get upgraded to get a little bit better performance.....if I am playing around in this area, to upgrade this stuff might be worth it to me.

Ok, thanks everyone!

Awesome choice my friend. I have the same exact car (98 V70 manual Coral reef red)

I get excited looking at your car now, even as I simultaneously gaze at mine outside my window... volvogasm.
I have gone through and replaced LITERALLY every single part on this car myself. There is not a spot on the body I am not familiar with (;)

It would not hurt to replace the cat and catback exhaust to get some much better performance. Check out IPDusa or FCPeuro.com for some aftermarket parts. You might like what you find there.

Cool. Yeah man. My 5th one!

Hmmmm it does have a new muffler on there. Everything else sucks and is old a rusty.

And I did some custom Italian Tailpipe Work....aka ITW....as shown in this pic...

How many miles on ur bucket of bolts?!?! Hahaha all bolted togetehr, mine is getting a good going over.

Yeah, I really do turn around and check out my wagon 10 seconds after I park it!

I have 244k miles. Just picked up this beauty.... Needed eBrake fixed, and I put new rear pads and rotors on at the same time, and needed cv boot and steering rack boots.

Going back for VA state inspection tomorrow.

Ah sweet, I love the interior... same exact color as mine too.

I currently have 270k on mine. I got it at 150k and it has been my daily driver for literally over 8 years straight. Funny you say that because I am doing my Cv axle, wheel bearings, tie rod ends and new upgraded IPD sway bars next weekend. Its going to be a big project and I have been putting it off until the I can get that 60 degree day...

Ok, so I got some things on order.....I didnt get the manifold, but I found one that seems cool and performance oriented!

I am starting with these gaskets from fcp

Pics enclosed! I will get the car on the lift and get a good look at what is going on.

Also, people have said that maybe putting a cloth in the exhaust for a minute or so, and the exhaust will be easier to see and the leak will be apparent.

But the problem has to be fixed! Car is hard to drive because I get a little dizzy, and it's uncomfortable.

And everyone, Thanks for the help. I ordered the exhaust gaskets. The ones from the turbo housing to the downpipe, and the downpipe to the midsection. I think. Lol

Trouble is finding something that shows this exhaust in a good and easy to read and see exploded view!

If I end up doing this whole job, from cyl head to tail pipe out the back....I will post a million pics to help those in the future!

I know the engine cyl head goes to the exhaust manifold, and then......

The turbo block is next.....

And then the downpipe.....

After that it gets unclear----

So, on the downpipe....where is the connection on downpipe to the cat?

Cat gasket. Where is this? At the other end of the downpipe? And then connects to the midsection? Help if ya can....

I can't find any pics..... Help?

If I pull the whole exhaust and replace, I will take lots of pics. Lots to share the knowledge.

Anyone else do this or have a threads I could check out?

Thanks!

These joints that leak are weld joints - there is no gasket. It is the weld joints in front of and behind the catalytic converter (number 1 in the diagrams), especially the one at the back.

There is one gasketed joint at the top of the down pipe, then the downpipe has a flex init and is welded directly the catback from the factory. That's it, the rest are welds all the way back, no more gaskets.

Ok thanks! And , the top of the downpipe gaskets to the turbo block....and then the turbo block bolts direct to the manifold, not gasket, correct? Any chance of it leaking there?

Also, I read in another thread that the color of the smoke is important. I will take a look again, I think it's blueish grey, maybe oil.

I may just put a new exhaust on it and be done. I like that manifold. What is a good downpipe to get? And any ideas on a midpipe aka pipe with cat...(or maybe without). I am almost at the age of the car that it won't need emmsions.....
