Add heated and power seats to a car without them?

Post by FireFox31 »

Hello, I'd like to add heated front left and right seats and power right seat to my 2000 V70 which does not have them. What parts are needed from a donor car to do this?

Does my car with no heated seats and only front left power already have the wiring and relays for front heat and right power?

From a junkyard, I plan to pull both front heated and powered seats, the center console heated seat switches part 30739322, and the console tray with switch holes part 9158075. What else will I need to make this swap? Thanks in advance.

My 99 NA looks like it has about the same harnesses both in the console and under the seats as the 98. If true all you should need is the hardware. Steve may have some clues, and I'll bet Robert has done it.

I may be wrong as North American and in particular US cars have some different stuff in them over European and even Canadian.

I believe if you pull the Driver and passenger seat and look under the join in the carpet you may find the wiring is already there.

What you can do is take the 2 front bolts out of the seat rail, the inner rear bolt by the center console and then just loosen the out bolt. This will allow you to rotate the front seats back to get access without having to remove them fully to check the wiring.

Does your center console coin tray have 2 blanks, one either side of the coin tray? If so, remove the tray and see if the 2 seat heater connectors are under the cover. If they are, then you will just need the switches. If Steve doesn't have spares I probably do I can send you.

If you don't know how to remove the coin holder, grip it from the rear and rotate it rearward and it should pop out. The main tray you have to prise out from the end closest to the gear shift. It has 2 tabs on the edge that have to be pushed fairly hard backwards. You can then lift it out to access underneath it.

Last think to remember is 98 year seats are different to 99-00 seats in terms of the electrical's and airbag deployment. If I recall you can move them over, but as you don't have the seat heaters that won't work.

For the -98 P80 cars, you also need two silver circuit breakers that are in the fuse box in front of the steering wheel. These are for the heated seats. I'd inspect your fuse diagram and see if there are slots are for the heated seats, if so then check the donor car and see what's in that fuse/breaker/relay position.

Thanks for the tips. It appears that the 2000 without heated seats has the wiring for the switches under the coin tray (see picture). Does that picture show the fuse box behind the steering wheel which you're talking about? It's above the left foot rest near the hood release lever.

That is the connectors for the heated seat buttons in the coin tray. Weird though there are no blanks in the tray t give access to them. I you can't find one let me know as I have several.

No that's the relay block. The fuse box in the -98 P80 is on the other side of the firewall, under/in the cowl.

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fuse- ... -xc70-c70/ but it doesn't show the circuit breaker positions, 39 and 40. Does your 99 have the same fuse box?

99-00 also has the same fuse box, as well as the kidney shaped one in front of the brake booster. The reset fuses are normally in there, but I don't know if the heated seat ones are.
