dumb AC question...

Yeah I know this is a dumb question.

Is the AC recharge port a screw on or a pull-off type? Mine is literally frozen in place and can't remove it by hand.

I really couldn't find a answer anywhere by searching to this simple question.

On my 1994, it's an aluminum cap. It is threaded into the valve. It has 6 points, like a nut, so you could put a socket on it.. you might want to lube from underneath with at least silicone, since snapping this thing off will be bad news.

In two of my other vehicles, a 1998 VW Beetle and a 1992 Isuzu Pickup that has been retrofitted from R12, they have identical black plastic caps. They are also threaded into the valve and unscrew.

It's screwed on. It just might be on especially tight. You could use a socket/wrench that matches the size, I'm not sure what it is. But, it's just easier to use a pair of wide angled pliers or wrench, grip it, and get it loose.

Well I got it off to check the pressure. Turns out to be still good, just right at 25psi.

It was hard to believe that cap needed a 19mm or a 3/4" socket to get off!
I just hand screwed it back on afterwards.

I take it that the 6Nm marking is a torque setting for the cap?

I don't know what it is about them, but they tighten up on their own. either the refrigerant, it's oil, or the UV dye is almost like glue. All three vehicles I checked last week were on insanely tight, given they had been finger tightened originally.
