Sounds like cheap plastic

Post by diveshark09 »

My 2006 S60 2.5t has a cheap plastic sound coming from the the console between the seats. Not the slide piece, the one with the arm pad. When you rest your arm on it creeks and cracks.Dosent really crack but you get the idea.Other people must have the same problem? So how do you fix this? Thanx in advance

In VR the seat makes the same noise you're talking about, center arm rest quiet. It's annoying to me. I read somewhere the dealer has a TSB?

Thin felt or foam tape
Start tracing where you think the noise(s) are coming from, remove pieces, tape the butting areas/ joints, replace.
(WORKS)!

It IS cheap plastic, these cars are full of it all over.
On wagons I remove all the rear panels and painfully start taping the entire area and when i do this, an old Volvo can be as tight and quiet as (most) new ones! (Some are bad right off the bat),
so sometimes this is necessary on new cars
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

My dash does this ( '99 V70 ). I've squeezed a shim in between the dash and windshield, which pretty well stops it. When I replaced the pollen filter last, I re-torqued some bolts that held the dash to the firewall (they were very loose) but this did nothing....

Thoughts?

The tape is a good plan. Those rattles are maddening. :)
