I have a severe creaking noise when turning the steering wheel in either direction at low speeds when it is warm outside. This is a 2003 V70 base.
I've done some research regarding the steering bushing and gator on the column. I don't think this is the issue. I lubed the collar with no change. My v70 does not have the plastic version that seems to have caused all the problems in earlier models. It is a metal version with rollers.
Additionally, all the complaints about the column bushing happen when it is cold outside.
My creaking goes away when it is cool outside, makes no noise in the winter. Another forum mentioned possible bushings in the steering rack but the thread ended with no response.
What else could be causing the creaking? Tie rods, inner and outer were replaced a few years ago and axles were done a few months ago.
I'm considering replacing the gator and collar anyway. Does anyone have any info on replacing it. Looks like I would need to disconnect the universal on the shaft.
