P80 Nissens A/C Evaporator

Have any of you used a Nissens A/C evaporator on a P80? If so what is your opinion compared to using OE?

A few years ago I used an aftermarket evaporator on a 93 850 and had a nightmare with poor fit and took days longer to install due to miss-shaped connector cones in the engine bay. Eventually had to file them down and re-shape to get them to fit. Can't remember the brand though.

Thoughts and any other brand suggestions that you have used and been happy with.

I am considering pulling the dash for repairs, so may take the opportunity to tackle this while in there.

Don´t know, but if I were to pull the evap (still hoping I don´t have to this year) I´d go with Volvo/OEM because this is nothing I´d like to do again. Kinda like buying an aftermarket RMS. Just my 0.02$

I'll look and see what I used on my 1999. I think I used OEM but paperwork will tell.

I bought it from eEuro, part number 918739 back in 2013-03

That SKU is showing as a Rein unit, today. Its about 90 USD

Fitment was easy, I recall having to bend the aluminum hoses slightly to align the AC coupling. I have not added any fill to my AC in three years, so everything sealed tight.

I can't now recall the brand I used on the 93 850. It was a nightmare, and I'm sure I bought it from FCP. Part worked fine eventually, but it took a lot out of me, having to bend the pipes and file down the end flares so the 'o' snap could connect as they couldn't get over the flare ends as they were too big.

That is the reason for my question as to brands as I also only want to do the job once, but also having a part I don't have to fight to fit and works well is important!

I am a confessed hoarder, but mostly only with OE parts, but as these are getting harder to find, I worry about waiting to buy a part at a good price to store away, only to find that when I get around to fitting it there is a problem!

Any other inputs on brand quality of this part is also appreciated!

The sled has had a tiny evaporator leak for years. My heart sank! Thought Volvo had fixed this issue before my 98. Fortunately, it only requires about half a can once a year or so. My dash doesn't squeek so that's not an incentive. I just keep topping it up and it continues to cool well. Not sure how long I'll be able to do this however. So far, I've been quite lucky.

Yes, I agree, don't plan to, or want to do this, but when the squeeking dash gets to be too much it will come out for my good spare one, and I'd do the evaporator and clean out the heating system more thoroughly than I can when it is in place.

Dash out on the 1999 wasn't too bad, I have to say. I think it was about 2-3 hours, including bagging and tagging parts

Nissens ia a good brand. My 500sec has a nissens radiator. Works and fits perfect. Its a very commonly sold brand here. See it a lot. No reason not to get it.
