1998 V70 Gas Door

Post by flyingswede »

I have replaced the plunger for the gas door. I know it works I can hear it, also replaced the hinge but he door will not open. It seems like there is not enough spring tension to push the door away from the plunger. Any ideas. Thanks for any help

Will it open with the emergeny release behind the rear quarter panel cover? If yoyu get it open that way try spraying the locking mechanism with WD 40. Ever since I did that my fuel door has never been stuck again

Yes I can open with the emergency release, but I have to push on the front of door to open. It's almost like the spring is pushing to the closed position.

- Then get a new fuel door spring, it is cheap.

- On the same topic, my electric motor sometimes (5% of the time) does not work when I hit the switch on driver's door.
Sometimes car is driven by my kids/wife, so I make it easy for them by installing an emergency pull in the trunk, WITHOUT having to remove the side carpet trim. Here is how I do it:

* Undo the release mechanism (3 Torx screws, IIRC).
* I used RED electrical wire (the solid copper wire used in household wiring).
* One end wrapped around the tip of the electric motor, the other end sticking into the TRUNK (with a loop to pull).
This way when I can't open the fuel door, all I have to do is open the trunk and pull on the RED wire, no need to peel off carpet trim.
* It is a 10-min mod.

When you replaced it did you use a 850 or a V/S70 mechanism as they are different. The 850 will fit but does not have the plunger that pushes the door cover out. 850 just removes a pin but you have to manually open the door after that.

I got the V/S70 mechanism. I did order another hinge, but it sure feels the same. I will install tomorrow. Thanks for all the ideas.
