Lee, I can't adjust the top nut because the entire mount turns accompanied by a loud rubber squeaking - this only happens on the affected side, the other has very little movement. Well that seems to be correct, I noticed that unplugged, my turbo gauge sits unmoving in the center. Thanks for all the replies. I have tried pushing it into place with a screwdriver but it just pops back open. I think I'll have to go ahead with the replacement, it isn't an expensive part anyways. Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did fiddle with both the latch and the release inside the car, but no progress. I will go ahead and order one, I see that it seems to be just a couple of bolts holding it in, but how is the cable disconnected?
