squeaking rear brakes

Post by cohophysh »

Just replaced the rear brakes on 850. installed shims and applied anit squeak, well they squeak like crazy. should I apply more antisqueak? replace the shims with new shims (pads didn't come with shims, i used the old ones)? Any suggestions

sometimes new pads on old rotors will squeal until the pads wear enough to take on the groove profile of the rotors.

Jot? your take on the brand/composition? autozone typically runs the Wearever Gold as a standard.

cohopsysh, you GOTTA replace the shims with new ones. I just did the rear brakes on my 97 850 GLT, and at first I didn;t even use shims, just the anti squeak goop, but it didn't matter. I went to my local Volvo dealer and got the shims for $16 plus tax, put them on with some anti squeak goop, and it hasn't squeaked since. My wife now drives the car since it doesn't sound like a garbage truck any more! :D Hope this helps you!
